Set Up Before Testing
Set the subwoofer's gain at a moderate level and the crossover as recommended for your system. Turn off bass boost and room correction temporarily so you hear the raw output. Place the sub away from walls where possible to reduce boominess.
Listen for Problems
- Port noise: a chuffing sound from the vent
- Cabinet buzz from loose panels
- Uneven volume across the sweep
- Distortion near the lowest frequencies
Walk around the room as the sweep plays. Differences in loudness show room modes.
Fix Common Issues
Tighten screws, move the sub, adjust phase and use isolation pads. If the cone is cracked or the coil rubs, see our blown speaker test. The test helps you pick settings rather than guessing.
